:::Visions of the Revolution:::
Lately my costume endeavors have tended towards the 1700s, an era of grace and elegance. The end of the summer will feature an evening dance at a local historic site where I will have the opportunity to step out in style attired in an elaborate silk 1700s gown. The dance is of the American Revolution era. I've set aside a luscious bright blue silk taffeta for the occasion. The dress will be in the Polonaise style popular to that era and will feature a train that can be let down or bustled up according to whim, fashion, or occasion. My jewelry will feature an elaborate pearl necklace - a past purchase - and some newly constructed pearl bracelets.
Researching costumes for class designs for 'School for Scandal' has given me the opportunity to check out loads of library books and watch many movies on the era, and I intend to work costumes of the era into my research for a history research paper this semester. Oh, the joys of costume design. ; )
The dance will take place in a park so the mansion is surrounded by beautiful woods and wildlife. I cannot wait! I need only to think of a costume for Vince to wear. Velvet and silk are stunning fabrics for gentlemen of the era and may play into my design.
