:::New York City:::
The fabric swatching trip to New York City was EXCELLENT! We left State College early in the morning in my teacher Barbara's van. There were four of us students - Clare, Rachel, Kayleigh and I. Clare and Barbara chatted in the car, I finished my sketches in my chic leather sketchbook, and Kayleigh and Rachel sacked out in the back.
11:00 We finally arrive in NYC and promptly lose our hubcap in traffic! Barbara pulled the van over and Clare ran out into traffic to retrieve it. Port Authority was full so we headed to 40th street to park the car in an upscale parking garage (the school's paying for it...) and then headed out for some fabric swatching.
We started at 40th street and hit a few shops and then worked our way up to 39th and eventually 38th. My favorite shop was Mood because it was in the middle price range - not as expensive as B&J where fabrics seemed to start at $69/yd. Mood was also fashion designer's heaven and I enjoyed the trendy layout of the store. They also had moire silks - yummy. I would have put money down on some white silk moire had I found the perfect one. I really want to make an original 1860s dress that Wheatland owns. Clare purchased some cute pink Pucci silk for a top - retailing at $40/yd but very worth it.
We finished out our swatching by hitting B&J which was very upscale. I loved it. I'm pretty sure I could swatch fabric as a career and be perfectly contented. : )
Once we were all exhausted we stopped at Starbucks to chat a little and then headed to a few shoe, handbag, and jewelry stores on our way back to the van. I wish the trip had lasted a week, it was sooo fun!
