Horrors unleashed: This is what they keep "hanging" around the costume shop storage room. Pretty spooky, huh?

Tonight I'm sitting around working on my final renderings for 'School for Scandal'. They're turning out pretty well so far, although the process is always much slower than I initially expect. I was thinking maybe 1 hr. each (or wishing) but it's more like 4 + hrs. They look nice though. I'm working with Prismacolor and watercolor pencils on a charcoal paper like surface. I like it a lot better than watercolor. It works so much better for me. I think I'll stick to pencils from now on. Enough with watercolor. I can't be free with watercolor and I hate waiting for things to dry before adding another coat. Colored pencils look much more artistic and have a much brighter and more vibrant appearance. : )

Currently I'm watching "The Buccaneers" by BBC. It wasn't worth the money I spent on it, but it is a good movie to watch every now and then. I love the character Nan - she's so beautiful and always wears the perfect clothing. The clothing is all 1870s and gorgeous...not quite as fabulous as "Daniel Deronda" though.

Last night I had a marvelous dream with 1860s clothing and a wonderful house with lots of secret hiding places. I remember my best friend Carrie and I always used to adore such houses and talk about wanting secret rooms and hallways in our houses. Now secret rooms kind of creep me out a little. But we were immensely delighted by "The Secret Garden". We even had two matching ivory looking elephants just like the twins in the movie. People used to say that we looked alike. : ) Rewatching "The Secret Garden" and "A Little Princess" made me wonder if I didn't have a streak for the Orient in my younger days. After all, both movies had exotic elements that embraced the whole Orientalist idea that the Victorians loved so much. I love Orientalism. Paintings inspired by the Orient are so beautiful and full of color. I want my costume designs to be the same, full of vibrant color and life. Dramatic and delightful. Nothing ugly, everything that would be ugly needs to be glossed over and made beautiful and idealized. Beauty reminds me of my Creator and all that he has made.
