Decorating Dreams

I am so SO excited about decorating our apartment later this summer! So excited, in fact, that it keeps me up at night...thinking and dreaming up wonderful decorating ideas. I've been pouring over all my old copies of Victoria magazine, reading decorating blogs, and thrifting and antiquing as much as time allows. And Craigslist is my new best friend. : )

This is such an exciting new avenue for my creativity! I've always loved decorating. I used to sketch ideas for redecorating my room in middle school...mostly I was not allowed to do much, but I did create little accessories to decorate with. My favorite styles now are 'Romantic' 'French Country' and 'English Country' and 'Shabby Chic'. I dislike all things modern and cookie cutter. But still find room to adore Target. I love antique pieces that look worn...they tell a story and I love to sit and ponder their past lives and the families that owned them.

I have so many crafty ideas for our new home. My latest thought has been to paint a giant painting for the kitchen. I'd like for it to be something colorful and fun...not to complex. Perhaps a fruit still life. I already have the canvas and paint. : ) I thought it would only be right for our home to have a painting that I've done. Why own copies of other people's genious when we could have an original.

And I want to find creative ways to reuse the wedding reception decorations. Especially the votives and flower vases. I've decided to decorate the white cabinet in the dining room - which comes with the apartment - with the small flower vases. I'll put brightly colored flowers in each vase and arrange them on the shelf to add some glamour and color to the dining room. I can replace silk flowers with real one when we have company. I will also scatter some of the crackle glass votives on the shelves for candlelit evening dinners. : ) Yum!

I can't wait! I'm so excited for the end of summer!

I've thought about the reuse of reception stuff, too.

I'm considering making my table clothes out of the same fabric that I use to make underpinnings. That way, I can reuse the cloths to make underpinnings or mock ups.

I'm also thinking of buying tons vintage cloth napkins for use at our reception. With rice paper napkins on the side for back-up since they're natural and biodegradable.

Our reception is going to be eccentric, I think.

Wow, I like the tablecloth idea. That would probably work out nicely. Even if things get stained you can use them for mock ups. Go for it! I can't wait to see pics!

Eccentric is good, your guests will love it because they'll know it's 'You'. :)
