Chemise a La Reine Inspiration

I'm addicted to researching historical clothing! I know I should be sewing reproductions, but I can't seem to pull myself away from the computer and books. I just keep telling myself just one more link, just one more book, just 10 more minutes, and hours fly by and my thirst for more knowledge on historical clothing is still not quenched. Ha! Good and bad. Bad if you want to make reproductions. I just need to keep repeating, 'I love sewing', and maybe I'll eventually convince myself. ;)

Someone came to me and asked if I would make them a dress from the 1780-90s. The Chemise a la Reine style found in 'The Cut of Women's Clothes.' Now I want to make several of these dresses in different fabrics. Don't ask me why! I've just been on this kick lately - making things in multiples. Why? I think I just want to improve the process and so it's fun for me to see how things work out with different types of fabrics. Heh. :) I also have an idea of how I could use these dresses that is slowly creeping into my head...and it's really bad. Because that means that I would need to make at least four of these dresses! Three for me and one for the lady who wanted to order one! Ha!

Check out this dress diary for images of a beautiful finished product: LINK

And of course Katherine of Koshka the Cat also has fabulous dress pics: LINK
