Sewing and Downtown

This is the style of the 1785 white dress that I'm currently working on. I'm using the pattern from 'The Cut of Women's Clothes'. I thought about using the Rocking Horse Farm pattern - I have two copies of it, an older version and a newer version which I was sure would be the same as this one. But upon further study it turned out that they weren't. So I went with the authentic pattern in the book. So far it's working out nicely. I think I'll sew on it again on Sunday.

Downtown. The other day mom and I went downtown to run an errand. Afterwards we stopped at Mommalicious and Smilin Gal. It was such fun! I purchased probably more things than I should have, but everything was so adorable! I found a lovely little blue and gold tea tin. A silky satin nightgown - 1930-40s. And two lovely little pairs of shoe clips. The one is pearls, the other rhinestones. I will use the rhinestone one for trimming an article of clothing. I can't wait to wear the pearl clips with my pearl necklace, earrings, and bracelet. Ahh. There were so many other things there that I wanted to purchase, too! I have to describe the dressing room because it was so cute. It was just a small little closet with the walls and floor painted different shades of tiffany or robins egg blue. One large black distressed mirror hung on the wall and another rested against the wall on the floor. A large opened umbrella in ivory and black stripes hung from the ceiling in one of the corners. A wooden rack hung along the wall with hooks for clothing. It was so adorable with all of the distressing, and the colors looked very smart together. I hope that someday I will have a home that lovely and smart looking! I'm working on it!

Kitchen designs. So far I've pretty much got my whole kitchen designed for up at PSU! My parents purchased the tiffany blue shade of fiesta ware plates for a wedding present. And I found several vintage aprons and gingham fabrics in yellow, blue, orange, and brown all with white. The gingham is yellow and white and will be made into curtains. We will have a small table against the wall with an orange and white gingham tablecloth on it. I found the perfect chairs too, but they're not quite mine yet, so I still have to cross my fingers and hope! They are a set of two in white wrought iron with fabric covered seats.

Yesterday we went to pick up the loveseat from Calico Corners! It's finally all mine! : )
