I've been dreaming of the 1930s again and hoping I can make a few 1930s evening gowns soon. I love the styles of that era. The evening gowns are the epitome of beauty. I can't decide which dress to make first! I want to make a red satin evening gown like one that I saw in the movie 'Black Book'. Heavenly. And of course, I want to make a dress like the gree gown in 'Atonement'. I've also been itching to make a dress like the dress on www.thefrock.com worn by one of the Talmadge sisters. It's a dip-dyed blue gown. I purchased some dip-dyed silk in the same shade several years ago for the project but still haven't gotten around to making it! 12 yards of beautiful silk satin. : ) And, I'd like to make a dress from the pattern that I draped a few semesters ago while up at PSU. It's based off of an image of a 1930s dress. It was our final project for the class, to drape a pattern for the dress. What a fun final project! I'm not sure what color I want to make that dress in. I was thinking maybe a deep turquoise blue?
I always have so many projects that I'm in the middle of working on. I have patterns to finish, bags I've cut out but haven't started sewing, projects for customers always looming on the horizon, and lots of wedding things to do!
Why does it seem I never have enough time?

Aesthetically, the 1930s is my time period for clothing. Unfortunately, my body type is more suited to the 1950s.
Mind and body just don't agree : (
I have the same problems with sewing projects. Choosing fabric, planning the design, etc., etc. is the best part for me. Then I assemble everything and the inspiration seems to evaporate ;-)
That dress was just about the only thing I liked about Black Book ;)
I think the fashion of the (late) 1930s was the absolute best and flattering.
I just got a new summerdress, so simple, so basic, so cheap, so nice looking!
