Announcement

I guess it's time for another post. I sort of have a little announcement to make that I haven't really shared with you before. Back in February I left my job at Sight and Sound to start my own little business sewing historical reproduction clothing. It's very exciting! It's something that I think I've always wanted to do. Ever since middle school I remember dreaming of one day owning my own business. My favorite magazine was Victoria and it's all about women entrepreneurs. : ) So, I've finally done it! It was absolutely the right decision!

It's official. My business is entitled Three Graces Historical Clothing. Named after one of my favorite tableaux scenes 'The Three Graces'. The Three Graces were Greek and Roman mythological figures and part of Aphrodite's retinue. I'd really love to offer historically accurate clothing for many different eras. Including the civil war era, but it would be so wonderful to do other eras that I haven't yet explored quite as in-depth. ; ) I love the 1700s and early 1800s as well as the bustle period. I guess it's just finding customers to purchase dresses of those eras.

I've been collecting websites that I like recently to determine what it is I like about them, and I realized that I really love the work of Christina Dettmers of Nehelenia Designs. Oh, you can't imagine how many times I've looked over her lovely website with all the delightful reproduction costumes she's made from all eras and said longingly, "I want her job!".

So, since February I've been working on orders that I've gotten through word of mouth. I really haven't advertised at all and basically I just say a prayer that God will bless my business and know that somehow things will work out. And so far things have been excellent. I've had enough money to make ends meet and purchase a few things for the apartment...well okay, maybe it depends how many things constitutes 'a few'...who knows, it may have been a ton of things. : ) Don't tell Vince though because that would be outside the budget he's given me. Hehehe. ; )

Hopefully the website will be up soon. I purchased DreamWeaver and then realized that I feel next to tears ever time I try to figure out how to use it. Vince will help me get started on it once his classes are over. He's pretty talented at website design, I think, so I'm looking forward to having his input on the website.

Anyway, I wanted to post about today. I'm not lazy...just working on the wedding a lot lately! And shopping, too! So here are a few pictures. :)

This afternoon Mom and I went to the Susquehanna Glass shop to look for glass vases for the church and reception at the wedding. We found exactly what we were looking for. And more...a few new pieces of Fiestaware for my growing collection. ; )

Afterwards we couldn't resist stopping at a nearby antique store to browse.

I thought these crackle glass vases were so cute! And I really loved the decorating throughout the store. Very tasteful.

Adorable little table hand painted by a local artist. I thought this was a very cute idea. What a great way to make something old look fabulous?

Another stenciled piece. So cute!

The real find of the day. Beautiful silk wedding shoes. Originally $130, found on the clearance rack at a bridal shop for $50. Wow. They're so comfy, too. And I <3 Silk!

And last but not least, my project for this evening. Recovering this little bench for a vanity in my someday bedroom at PSU. I found this lovely piece for $10 at a furniture sale at my grandparent's retirement home. It had a very nasty pink plastic covered seat. So, we took it off and added a blue silk fabric cover. Very glamorous looking! I'd like to decorate the vanity with white glass items that I've collected from antique and thrift stores. Hopefully some tall candy dish type items to hold jewelry. And here's the finished result:

Oh WOW! Congratulations Lindsey!!! I'm so looking forward to hearing (and seeing!) how this goes for you!

One of these days I'm going to ask you to make a cage for me -- my kitten has left mine in shambles (and it wasn't a pretty sight to begin with) Hehe!

I love the small bench that you re-covered! I'm really starting to like remaking and reusing things. Necessity is the mother of invention, after all : )

Again, congratulations!!

Thanks, Rosie! Your Cage - Oh No! That's horrible!!! :( I hope you're loving your kitty though! Necessity is totally the mother of invention - I feel lazy sometimes and want to just go buy what I want, but doing it myself from things that I find around the house almost always produces a better result. :)
