Blue Moon
Lately there have been several rather large developments in the Revolutionary War costume construction process. Last night I purchased the boning for the stays - plastic cable ties from Lowe's, and leather for the stays - a white leather skirt from Goodwill. When I got home I was set to cut out the mock-up for the dress. I opened the pattern to find that the pattern maker had mistakenly sent me a men's waistcoat pattern in the dress envelope. : ( I tried to re-order the pattern but it won't be shipped until the 17th - too late to make the dress. Ugh.
I thought I'd make a jacket to go with the blue silk, but it turns out that when we (probably illegally) copied the pattern from a friend's we only copied every other page of the directions. Oops! The jacket would also require Panniers and I don't want to make a pair of them - too time consuming and I'm not sure that I have enough of the reed. Sooo...
I think I've officially scrapped the dress idea for the time being and may make a light blue silk skirt and a yellow silk brocade jacket from a Brigade of the American Revolution pattern. The pieces will be hard to fit out of the brocade, so we'll see what I can come up with. It's a really wonderful satin brocade though! : )
