This original Georgian dress is from a clothing display that I saw several years ago at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I'm toying with the idea of making a new dress to wear to Rock Ford when I docent there next weekend - I know, short notice! Of course, I sent practically every one of my costume books up to Penn State already so all of the patterns for things like this are not here! But, I did remember that I left the (rather valuable) "Revolution in Fashion" book here...and it had a pattern for (what I believe is) this dress in the back on p.131. They said it looked like an earlier dress featured in the book, but when I saw that it was from the Phili Museum I thought perhaps it was one of those that they had on display...and it looks like it was!
The first time I viewed the movie "Amazing Grace" and saw Ramola's walk in the garden costume I knew I'd have to make one like that some day! And the other day while watching it I was reminded of some lovely red and blue changeable silk that would look lovely made up into that style dress. Who knows if I'll get it done in time...with a wedding coming up you just never know.
Today is ONE MONTH until I'm getting married! :)
Here's a LINK to the dress on the Phili Museum's website.
