Tonight I feel so fretful...one of the things on the list of things to worry about is the decorating in the living room of the apartment. This bothers me...immensely. Drives me crazy.
I've decided to make a window seat for the current wooden window seat - shown partially pictured above. It will be made of 2" thick foam and covered in a 1930s shade of peachy pink fabric. The pillows on the couch will also be recovered to coordinate with this new color scheme. It's to look more glamorous...somewhat Vintage, but a little 'older' Vintage and also Victorian. More 1930s Vintage. So, here's the real question.
What is the proper length for curtains when they will be hung above a window seat like this one. The bench runs the width of the room. I'm afraid that if the curtains go to the seat it will look awkward. Should they 'pool' on the seat? Or should they go to the floor and sort of stand out from the seat - will that look bad? Will it break up to look at the 'front' of the room??? We need curtains to help keep the living room warm in winter because the house is not properly winterized. The curtains will likely be made of the same fabric as the window seat, which is a satin with small geometric flower design woven in - all in the same color peach. I also have a cotton fabric with a floral design in more of a 'Victorian' style that has the same peach as well as greens on an ivory ground. This I would also like to use in the curtains...if it would look right. But what style of curtains should I do that would look good with the window seat???
That's the mystery of redecorating the living room...along with some other frustrations. :)
