Feeling on top of the world

I'm working diligently on my presentation outline for Thursday's presentation of historical clothing at a local museum. It's FABULOUS! Truly DELIGHTFUL! This is soooo what I want to be doing every day of my life...preparing and giving presentations! If only. : ) What job can I get to do this every day?

I was Picasa-ing through some of the images (on Picasa) of costumes that I've designed over the years...and I came across these research pics from my design stint for the production of Cabaret. I love these two sketches - aren't they SILLY? The pink dresses are so cute. I can just imagine them made up in luscious pink silk satin. ; )

The leading man for the production announced in front of the whole group of actors that he didn't want to play the horse for Sally to ride. I was so furious with him, but then when he complimented me on my red 1930s evening gown on opening night with a 'Wow' I totally forgave him. I'm such a pushover. :)

I loved designing costumes for shows, but in my hometown all the design gigs entail making all the costumes...no stitchers. Somehow throwing together things from Goodwill and quickly stitching up some cheap fabrics into wearable art does not quite seem like design to me. It seems a little...less glamorous...and much more like the Tableaux that I put on with my own budget. That's about the size of some budgets. Heh. Not exactly the type of gig that I went to college for. So, for now, I'll just stick to making things that I can really consider art...and out of nice fabrics. :)

But I still LOVE musical theatre. How can people go to see movies when there are plays with real live actors dancing and singing right there on the stage just for you? You can't leave a musical theatre production without feeling like you're floating on a cloud. And, isn't it just CUTE how the leading man is always a handsome stud that the audience is supposed to fall madly in love with by the end of the production...even if he is insanely gay. Hehe.
