Amazing Tableaux Purchase and more...

Today I made a really amazing purchase that finalized my decision on the scenes for the Belair tableaux. I was looking for the seventh scene and had a list of possibilities but nothing was certain. At work we had a company sale where employees could purchase items from the gift shops and things purchased for shows but not used at a significantly reduced price. I found a few good things but nothing amazing until I had paid and then I saw a huge pile of giant paper flowers. I mean GIANT. For example, the head of one flower is at least 2 feet across. They're HUGE! I purchased a few for the tableaux but then went back and purchased a few more...basically I purchased everything they had! Ha! I'm crazy sometimes. They just barely fit in my car but I only paid a little over $15 for all of them and I got about 20 giant flowers. Hehehe! : ) This is great. So I want to do a reproduction of a scene from one of my books and make it look similar to a period image that I have pictures of. I'm thinking that the scene will be entitled "The Fairy Queen" and will be set in a garden of gigantic flowers. This tableaux is going to be sooo much fun because I've really been going all out. So many of the costumes are made of silk and expensive trims and I purchased lots of new props to use. I'm planning to get rid of some of the older, less authentic costumes to make room in my basement for the new ones. : ) Yay! I love cleaning out old things to replace with new cooler things!

I've been giving Katelyn sewing lessons this summer - last week and the past two nights. We finally finished making the pattern - a gathered bodice with darted lining, and cut the fabrics tonight. It's so exciting to see young reenactors sewing because it means more authentic reenactors. : )

Tomorrow my mother and I are travelling to Gettysburg for an AGSAS seminar on Egypt by Karen and Briant Bohleke - the same thing they did at the 1860s Conference I think. I'm really excited. Afterwards we're meeting up with Rosie and her mom for dinner. Rosie is in G-burg for a sewing workshop with the Genteel Arts Academy - I can't wait to hear how her sewing workshop is going! They're making 1860s winter wear.

gah...all of this talk sounds so exciting! I wish I could come out for the Tableaux, but I really doubt I'll be able to make it. Man, I wish I had some time to just sew sew sew inspiring items. Perhaps one day I will give myself a leave of absence and just spend time sewing beautiful gowns. Ah...I can dream, can't I? :) I used to do that more. Sometimes I feel old. lol. Even though I KNOW I'm not. Maybe if I ever get married I'll see if I can play hooky for a bit. But I can't count on that. lol.

I'm sure that sometime you'll get the opportunity to sew yourself some beautiful garments! Now that I have a job sewing I just want to go to one of the Genteel Arts sewing classes so that I can make time to sew myself something - I know how you feel a little! : ) Your civil war costumes inspire me even though I'm sure you get tired of sewing for the same era all of the time. I wish that you could come to the Belair event...that would be really fun. : ) Sometime. Oh, sometimes I feel old, too. I already have a wrinkle! Life seems so short but I guess we just have to enjoy being unmarried while we are in this time of life. At least we're able to spend more of the money we make on our own follies rather than putting all of our money towards a family. : )
