Exploration

This week is a week of EXPLORATION for me. Next week is a week of SERVICE.

Yesterday I travelled to State College to visit Vince and spend time researching and exploring ideas. Vince had a special morning prepared for us at the Penn State Library. There we spent time in Special Collections pouring over old costume books and cdvs from the William Darrah collection. Vince was very strict though, and only allowed me to look at the CDVs from Lancaster...he's very efficient about things. ;)

This morning I'm setting aside time to relax and enjoy some books on sewing that I got through interlibrary loan. Gotta love that!

I discovered that the tomato pin cushion is (supposedly) a staple for every seamstress. This book even recommends having two! I recently purchased one, but only because it was a blue tomato pin cushion, and I thought that a novelty. But, I don't actually use it. Sometimes I stick needles in it...just to make it look like it's being used. It sounds like people actually use them for pins though? It seems like that would be a pain. I love the magnetic pin holders. Hmmm...interesting. Using a tomato pin cushion and a metal thimble are skills that I have not yet learned! I do like the leather thimbles though...but usually only use one after my fingers are all raw from being pricked.

Today's books:

'Bend the Rules Sewing' by Amy Karol (www.amykarol.com)
'Simple Gifts to Stitch' by Jocelyn Worrall
