More Haircombs!

In preparation for Landis Valley I made this set of jewelry to wear with my sheer bodice, black swiss waist, and blue silk skirt. I was originally looking for black beads, but the closest thing in large sizes that I could fine was Hermatite. It worked out rather nicely, and I was actually thankful that I had chosen that color because it really added to the outfit.

At the reenactment I got of couple people saying they were going to copy me. I love when people give you the heads up that they're going to steal your idea. ; ) Ah, well. Sometimes I feel like a fashion plate or a smorgasboard of fashion ideas because it seems like everytime I get a new outfit someone says they're going to copy something about it. It doesn't really bother me, it's just interesting. Mainly because I must look at like 50 originals for inspiration before selecting the one idea that I want to go with, so it's just odd that people see my outfit and it's like exactly what they wanted, when there is so much variety in period dresses to choose from. Strange. ; )

I know it's not as good as the cage crinolines from Needles and Thread - not as period correct, but I made this little cage crinoline (about 95" around the bottom hoop) to wear under my Harem girl costume. I love making cage crinolines. This one was extra special because I found the red and peach colored tapes on an old repro cage and was able to take them off and use them on mine. They're really neat tapes with peach embroidered on the red, so cute! I haven't seen anything like that in any fabric stores before. I also made the red striped petticoat to be worn with the Harem costume.
